Bell High SchoolÕs Progressive Discipline Plan

 

A progressive discipline plan has been established to best meet the needs of students and staff at Bell High School. In an effort to minimize the amount of valuable class time lost by these often at risk students and in order to assure a safe learning environment and to protect the integrity of our instructional staff, the DeanÕs Office in conjunction with teachers, administrators and staff will assert the following progressive discipline process.

 

Initial In-classroom Disciplinary Steps

 

  1. Clear review and posting of classroom and school rules
  2. Warning to student
  3. Conference with student
  4. Student sent to the referral room
  5. Parents notified by phone of problem
  6. Detention: nutrition, lunch, after school, (10 minutes does not necessitate parent notification) and Saturday when available
  7. Class suspension
  8. Conference with parents

 

Referral to Dean for ÒHabitualÓ or ÒSevereÓ Problems

 

  1. Counsel/ warn
  2. Counsel/ notify parents
  3. Tutoring/ campus beautification (with parents consent)
  4. Referral to Impact, Social Worker, Student Success team, when deemed appropriate
  5. Class suspension
  6. Suspension from school (usually one day)
  7. Parent conference-return to school with Dean and possible teacher
  8. Student contract
  9. District Review team
  10. Opportunity transfer

 

Use planners, written hall passes or referral forms when sending students out of class for any reason

 

Make referrals specific and please let the Deans determine consequences
