Lockdown Procedures

Please be advised that the following steps that must be taken when “Code Purple” (otherwise known as a lockdown) is called:

1. The principle or designated administrator will make the following announcement over the PA system, “Your attention please. We have an emergency situation and need to implement Code Purple (lockdown) procedures immediately. Teachers are to lock classroom doors and windows and keep all students inside the classroom until further notice. Do not open doors until notified by administration or law enforcement. IF OUTSIDE, students and staff are to proceed into the nearest building or classroom.”

2. IF INSIDE, teachers will:

• Instruct student to be seated (or lie on the floor if necessary),
• Lock the doors, IF IT APPEARS SAFE TO DO SO, close all windows.
• Keep students away from windows and close shades or blinds.

3. If outside, and safe to do so, students will proceed to their classrooms or teacher or staff will direct students to nearby classrooms or school buildings

(e.g. auditorium, library, cafeteria, gymnasium).

4. Teachers and students will remain in the classroom or secured area until further instructions are given by Principal, designated administrator, or law enforcement.

5. All school entrances are to be locked.

6. No visitors other than appropriate law enforcement or emergency personnel are to be allowed on campus.
