Financial Aid Workshops!

This message is from the College Center and is to remind all Seniors and students in the Class of 2012 that next Tuesday, February 28th, from 2:30pm to 4:30pm in room S4, is the last workshop to get help to complete your financial aid applications. This application must be filled out by March 2nd and is necessary to help pay for college or vocational school next year. It doesn’t matter what your plans are after high school, you should still apply! You can start your application by visiting http://www.fafsa.ed.gov. Please come to the college center to pick up a FAFSA check list. (R. Gurrola)

26th Session of the California State Summer School for the Arts (CSSSA)

Attention All Students- California State Summer School for the Arts (CSSSA) is seeking for teen artists, writers and performers. For 26 years, CSSSA has sought the most talented high school aged visual, literacy, media and performing artists in California. The teenagers who are selected are designed California Arts Scholars and attend one of the country’s premier summer arts institute on the campus of the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, this year from July 14- August 10, 2012. If selected, you will have the opportunity to spend 4 weeks studying and working with professional artists, writers, and performers of national stature. The talented teenagers who successfully complete the program receive 3 units of California State University course credit. In addition, 40% of students receive financial aid. Que Llueva Café Scholarship – AB540

Attention Seniors- If you are of Chicano/Latino descent and are an undocumented student who will be attending college this year, you have a chance of winning free money for college. The “Que Llueva Café” Scholarship aims to support the dreams, hopes and aspirations of college bound undocumented students so that they can earn their college education and allow for all their hard work and sacrifice to persevere. Each scholarship is worth $500.00. You can access and application by visiting http://www.ca-core.org or by going to the college center. Career Partners- Paid Work Experience

Attention Seniors- Looking for a job? Career Partners youth program offers paid work experience to High School Seniors who live in Bell. A representative from Career Partners will be at the career center on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 to provide you with more information. Noche de Ciencias at ELAC

Attention all students- “Noche de Ciencias” is a SHPE ELAC hosted event with its purpose to give free workshops to the parents on college awareness topics such as; how to research what college to attend, a variety of STEM fields a student can choose from, and the benefits of applying to financial aid. By attending these workshops you, the student, will be able to participate in the egg drop and mouse trap competition. You will be able to put into practice your imagination by working as an engineer with your group. LA Youth at Work: Internships in Healthcare

Attention Juniors & Seniors- Discover your career in Healthcare. HIRE LA’s Youth is connecting work-ready young adults to entry level employment opportunities in Los Angeles. Now is your chance to obtain valuable job training and work experience essential to a successful future. Kaiser Permanente is offering a limited number of paid summer internships for high school students. If hired, you will have to commit to 8 weeks from June 25 to August 10, 2012 and be available to work Monday through Friday from 8am-5pm. To be eligible, you must attend two mandatory sessions. One of the sessions will be held on February 25th from 9am to noon and the second session will be on March 24 from 9am to noon at USC.
