Traditional Japanese Karate

Typically, a traditional, Japanese Karate class will include four areas of training:  Kihon (basics), Kata (forms), Kumite (sparring), and self-defense.  Techniques are taught on a gradient to endure student understanding and safety.  Promotion, or belt testing is based on time spent training and understanding of newly acquired knowledge.  Most karate dojos encourage their students to attend three to four classes per week.  Testing dates are always at the discretion of the instructor.
